I didn’t know how much I needed a new, weird, Hollywood it couple until I heard rumours about the sweet Laura Dern and… Baby Yoda. Lol, what?
Rumours started flying when the Little Women actress was asked at last month’s Gotham Awards if she had seen Baby Yoda. Premusably, Variety’s Marc Malkin was referring to The Mandalorian – a franchise she is part of as Vice Admiral Holdo – and the memes that the precious, green, pocket-sized alien spawned.
But Dern paid no mind to the reference, instead claiming she saw the adorable (fictional) character at a basketball game.

And, tbh, Marc’s “what? lol. Ok, Laura” reaction, is basically the only appropriate reaction.
The internet was set alight, and her absurd (but low-key believable) story went viral and set off more questions than there could possibly be answers to.
who does Laura Dern think Baby Yoda is? – @rebeccaarubin
A fair few people thought she had simply confused Baby Yoda with some new-wave rapper – as if she wasn’t aware of the character in a franchise she too is a part of.

One user thought she merely confused her Little Women co-star, Timothée Chalamet, with the alien. Maybe it’s her pet-name for everyone’s fave soft-boy.

But, because it’s Laura Dern, and I – like many more Twitter users – would believe anything she says, I’m kinda like, if Laura Dern says she saw Baby Yoda at an NBA game, then she saw Baby Yoda at an NBA game.
If Laura Dern saw Baby Yoda at a basketball game then Baby Yoda was at a basketball game if we didn’t see it we slipped and it’s on us

It was only logical, then, that during her appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert last week, that Colbert attempted to clarify what the heck the Little Women actress was talking about.
Dern, however, only double down on the absurdity. And it seems like there’s something more going on – or that she wants to go on – between her and Baby Yoda. Something, dare I say, romantic?

She says Baby Yoda – who is not really a baby, she notes, but just a really small 50-year-old male (I guess) alien, so “it’s not inappropriate” – has a lot of qualities she looks for in a partner. Wisdom, a sense of humour, and the height really isn’t a big deal for her. Even the green-ness doesn’t bother her.
I have no idea what’s going on, but I’m weirdly down with it.
laura dern dating baby yoda and i support her because at least this time it’s not some trash man who will cheat on her again 😌 bsvshsjjsjs

I mean, with posts like this, she’s definitely feeding the monster that is the internet’s imagination.

I’m feeling quite understood today.
I don’t know what’s going on. But I’m kind of down with it. And if Laura’s okay with it, then I’m okay with it.
Here’s to our newest, wackiest OTP, Baby Yodern!
