Sydney Mosaic Mural Dedicated To Victims Of Domestic Violence [WATCH]

Domestic violence is one of the most threatening issues affecting women of Australlia everyday. At least one in five women have experienced sexual violence and the recent survey conducted amongst universities across the country has founded an astonishing amount of sexual harassment against women. With 94% of students who have been sexually harassed not reporting the incident, the month of October aims to raise awareness about this deep-rooted issue. In order to get people talking more and advocating against domestic violence, Two Good Co, American Express and Deliveroo have partnered up to commission a huge mosaic mural in the centre of Sydney.

The mural depicts Felicity Cook, a domestic violence survivor as a tribute to women affected by the issue. It officially went up earlier this morning and will remain until the end of the month at 182 George Street, Sydney. Besides the mural, the three partners will be delivering 20 000 meals to women in domestic violence shelters across Sydney and Melbourne. You two can donate a Two Good donated meal to a women’s shelter but ordering from Deliveroo with your AMEX.

Of course, this wonderful initiative will benefit many women over the next month, but it’s important to recognise that domestic violence will continue to happen and exist past the 31st of October. Know that everyone of us can play a part in advocating against the domestic violence. Remember; don’t engage and practice unwelcomed sexual behaviour, demonstrate respect, report sexual harassment if you witness it and seek support if you experience it (even though it may be extremely challenging and confronting). This is all easier said than done, but making small steps forward can encourage a greater momentum toward change.
