Trending Cities Across Oz You Might Actually Be Able To Afford Rent In

Moving out of home and rent in general is a significant life step. Heck, even just scrambling to pay your weekly living-out-of-home-costs is an impressive feat these days.

And with affordable housing less affordable than ever before, it might mean moving out could be tough. However, there are some cities and suburbs across Australia that you might not necessarily think of when sussing out places to rent.

So we did some digging with our friends at VIEW.com.au, to find some of the most trending cities in the country and how much you might be forking out in terms of rent.

Mile End, SA // $245 1 Bed Average, $290 2 Bed Average, $425 3 Bed Average

Just neighbouring the wider North Adelaide area, Mile End is a cheeky alternative that is still very close to the city, yet super affordable in terms of rent. You’re literally a skip, hop and jump from the main Adelaide CBD, and you’re paying the equivalent of a rent-esque happy meal.

Coburg, VIC // $300 1 Bed Average, $450 2 Bed Average, $530 3 Bed Average

Only a short commute north from the Melbourne CBD, Coburg is one of the most in-demand cities for young people at the moment. With heaps of easily accessible public transport, gentrified pubs and eateries within walking distance, and a very affordable average price, it’s not to hard to understand why.

 

New Farm, QLD // $300 1 Bed Average, $620 2 Bed Average, $450 3 Bed Average

Sitting slightly east of the CBD, New Farm has proven to be a popular area. With bars on every corner (it is Queensland after all), and water views a short stroll away, $300 for a 1-beddy is a pretty damn good deal.

Dulwich Hill, NSW // $410 1 Bed Average, $500 2 Bed Average, $660 3 Bed Average

Close to public transport, and with a good range of properties always available, Dulwich Hill is a bit of a winner for couples looking to rent. You can get a solid ensuite for about $200 each, and you’d even be looking at $250ish per person if splitting a two-beddy.

North Adelaide, SA // $337 1 Bed Average, $420 2 Bed Average, $595 3 Bed Average

Right next to Mile End, North Adelaide is perhaps even more popular. With great value for money, NA is brimming with culture, sport, scenery and everything food and beverage. Almost acting as a second CBD, you’re also only a short journey to the heart of the city.

Seddon, VIC // $266 1 Bed Average, $390 2 Bed Average, $602 3 Bed Average

In between Footscray and Yarraville, Seddon has hit the fan when it comes to popularity with us younger folk. A casual seven kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, Seddon is hugely popular with the young professional demographic, with it’s mix of cafes, restaurants and shops on offer. It has an artistic community feel to it, but can be quite quiet too. It covers a lot of needs for a small(ish) town.

Chippendale, NSW // $475 1 Bed Average, $720 2 Bed Average, $1,020 3 Bed Average

A lesser of a few evils in Sydney. Chippendale is a real fun area with plenty of buzz, life, yet out of the main CBD. With pubs and cafes for days, you get the ideal millennial location, with a very short commute into the city areas and surrounds. If you are happy to breach that $300-$350 per week category, it’s a very solid bet.
