5 Collab Albums To Look Forward To In 2017

A little musical fusion is good for all, bringing together some of the best talent to toil together. We have collaborative albums to thank for belting H.A.M. in every club, for the magical intertwining sounds of Mos Def and Taleb Kweli too. As 2016 draws to a close, at least we’re hopeful for a brighter future in 2017 and a better soundtrack. Here’s 5 collaborative albums to look forward to, you’ll no doubt have them on repeat come release.

#1 J.Cole and Kendrick Lamar

Off the back of his new album, J.Cole’s news of a collaborative project is enough to have fans in hysterics. Joining forces with wonderful lyricist and topical rapper Kendrick. Expect no two tempos the same from the finessed duo, known for layering their raps over intricate beats with impeccable ease. They’ve worked with a host of other talent in each of their careers, with J.Cole’s track with Missy Elliott, Nobody’s Perfect and the cache of Kendrick verses featuring their collaborative prowess. Prepare to see each line as Instagram captions for months after.

#2 Kanye and Drake

A joint project so incredibly huge, it’s predicted to break the internet. These thought provoking spitters are sure to be carving out a whole new sound for their debut as a duo. If Kanye and Jay Z’s exquisite album is anything to go by, Kanye is wonderful at infusing his own flavour with the skills of other rappers. Surprisingly good. We can only hope it lives up to the hype.

#3 Chance The Rapper and Childish Gambino

Niche rappers entering the mainstream from the side door, these two are all about doing things differently. With Chance’s solo endeavour set to be the first album nominated for a Grammy available only to stream, expect a unique offering. Gambino is set to be busy in the coming year, having recently been announced as a star in the next Star Wars instalment, but this album is worth waiting for. Their tonality alone is enough to have us eagerly awaiting this one.

#4 King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and Mile High Club

With an impressive sound ubiquitous only to them, Aussie King Gizard and The Lizard Wizard’s collaborative endeavour will be an interesting mix. Brandishing a psychedelic sound recognisable within the first few bars, their otherworldly spirit will spice up the work of Mile High Club. Mile High Club for those not acquainted, is an L.A. outfit with a different take on the psyche sound. Using classic 60’s riffs and a Mac DeMarco influence to set them apart. This one is certain to be a trip worth taking.

#5 Jhene Aiko and Big Sean

With one collaborative project under their belt, Twenty88 is set to release another album come 2017. Filling the voids lacking in Big Sean’s features with last girlfriend Arianna Grande. Their sounds meld with complete ease like one album length love song. It’s  relaxed and refined and we can only pray for something as excellent come round two.
