A term so bland, even the dictionary doesn’t know what it entails. A time apart, an indefinite trip, a separation without closing all the doors. On hiatus. Band hiatuses can be particularly sad, sure you have no album to look forward to but no closure either. Break ups aren’t easy we get it, but wishing for these 5 musicians to come back on air is tearing us apart.
#1 Sticky Fingers
They only announced it mere moments ago, but our hearts are broken. The rowdy bunch of rapscallions have been filling our airwaves with sweet, sweet tunes for a little while now and we don’t know how to deal without it. Wandering down Australia Street or warbling Caresss Your Soul in the shower will be a little bit sadder now.
Yeah, we know the frontman has a separate side project read: Blur, but we don’t care. The 2D band slash art project has us chanting feel good and serenading windmills for years to come. Maybe they’re moving into the 3D circuit or holographic performances, whenever they return they’ll be embraced gleefully. Word is they’re working on an album, but we won’t hold our breath.
#3 Yeah Yeah Yeahs
After the success of Heads Will Roll and the gruelling tour circuit, the talented bunch hung up their instruments for a hiatus. Catchy, genre crossing sounds make the Yeah Yeah Yeahs a band worth missing.
#4 Bombay Bicycle Club
British rock band Bombay Bicycle Club announced their hiatus with the telling words, they had no plans to record music in the future. The indie rock heroes always had us toe tapping and air-strumming with every rhythm and we’d like to see them back on stage sooner rather than later.
#5 Sam Smith
British singer with infinite soul took time off after a year so stellar, he almost lost his voice all together. A crooner with talent abound, we can understand Mr Smith wanting to take a break and appreciate his success. However, he better come back or otherwise Adele will continue to be overplayed on every airwave.
