5 Top Notch Melbourne Eats Under $10

Down to your last dollar and your belly empty? Fear not awful grumbles, we have just the thing. Make that blue ribbon note stretch a little further, with these eats that are as cheap as they are delicious. And that’s atrociously delicious. A midday meal, weekend romp or late night delight, don’t break the bank in search of a decent bite.

#1 Chicken Curry Don at Don Don – $7.7

The fodder of many an international student or money savvy slurper, this Japanese stop is a hearty treat for bargain eaters. Tuck into to a hearty serve of chicken curry don, a generous slather of steaming Japanese curry over rice. Japanese curry doesn’t get heralded enough in the realm of saucy ethnic fare, it’s golden brown in colour and best eaten once stirred. You’ll have to fight for your seat, but upon the first spoonful it’ll feel worth it.

#2 Gringa at La Tortilleria – $9.5

Tacos with a delicious difference, for less than a tenner you can truly go to town. No bad hombres here. Next the usual mince affair for succulent grilled pork matched with pineapple and oozy cheese. Sandwiched between two tortillas for your handling ease, dive on in. If only guac wasn’t extra, it would be a real life dream.

#3 Kibbie Platter at A1 Bakery – $10

You could load up at A1 and still leave with change for a 20, the grub here is generous, authentic and incredibly flavoursome. Load up your pita with a bit of this and a bit of that courtesy of their platter offerings. The kibbie platter is our pick, Lebanese meatballs served up for your bitesize delight, with a plentiful amount of hummus and tabouli. If you don’t leave full, you’re not doing it right.

#4 Ayam Percik at Roti Road – $9.90

Malaysian eats that are made to be shared, gather a hungry (and poor) crew and you’ll eat like kings. Start with a serving of the spicy bbq chicken, making sure to slurp up every last bit with your roti. If you haven’t tried roti before, consider this a doorway to a new found love. Airy, fluffy dough with a crispy outside, it’s a dunkers delight.

#5 8Bit With Cheese at 8Bit – $9.50

Hungry? No need pass through your local drive through in search of an affordable slice. 8Bit is a burger ahfficiando’s paradise, all decked out with game decor. The classic 8bit with cheese is a bargain at $9.50, oozing with American cheese, a healthy dose of salad and a patty lovingly grilled. There’s a special 8bit sauce doused throughout and pickles too, the perfect burger really.
