It’s no doubt that Avengers: Endgame has been easily the most anticipated movie of the year. Since Ironman came out in 2008, we’ve had 21 movies over 11 glorious years of intertwined storylines and action movie extravaganza. So the final crescendo of the MCU movie megalith was bound to cause a stir.
But what they didn’t expect was it to do quite as well as it has already. Because, in a record obliterating opening weekend, Endgame has pulled in a whopping $1.2 billion USD world wide. In just 2 days.
Estimated to make between $260 million and $300 million in U.S. and Canadian theatres, the film flew past that and drew movie goers to the cool sound of $350 million USD. This breaks the previous record, (which was set by Avengers: Infinity War no less) of $257.7 million USD.
And already, the final Avengers movie has made more than movies like Skyfall, Aquaman, and The Dark Knight Rises made over their whole box office run. One more time for the people in the back, this was done over ONE WEEKEND.
Some cinemas in the US have stayed open for a full 72 hours in order to meet demand. One cinema said that they’d sold out their 7am Saturday morning showing, something he’d never seen happen before. And with a 96% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, the critics and fans alike are loving it.
I guess all there’s left to say now is, if you haven’t seen it yet, do it. The numbers don’t lie. This is a big one.
