Does anyone actually know what Azealia Banks does? I swear she only crawls out of whatever lair she normally hides in to talk more smack like she’s everyone’s top-notch problematic un-fave.
I honestly pity anyone who actually liked some of her songs (none of which ever became Hot 100 Top Hit Singles), because imagine trying to stan someone who is this hell-bent on being hated.
Like, who in their right mind would come for Zayn Malik with racial and homophobic attacks when he was literally everyone’s fave. Why TF would you play yourself like that?

But now, Banks has hit a new record for how much shit she can talk. What did she do, you ask? Well, she came for Lizzo. THE Lizzo. QUEEN OF OUR HEARTS, Lizzo. And it’s bad.
What Azealia Banks Actually Said
In a series of straight up nasty Instagram comments, she talks mad shit about a whole lot of artists, but the absolute grossest parts are about Lizzo.
“Lmao the fact that the public and the media has been keeping this fat girl joke going for so long is honestly peak boredom,” she said in response to Lizzo’s ‘Truth Hurts’ hitting #1.
“The song is not good, nor is the dumpy fat girl spectacle live set she does. Saddest bit is that the girl is legit talented and truly only being allowed to shine so long as she allows herself to be this millennial mammy of sorts.”
Um, WHAT? BRB, I need to vomit because this is actually the worst take in the history of the universe.
She then goes on to say that Queen Latifah was good fat representation without being “disgusting.” Aaand, if you thought the fat shaming was over, you’re wrong. She also says “imagine what the rest of the world thinks when they see Lizzo jumping around in a leotard and cellulite.”
You know, because cellulite isn’t a normal feature on every woman’s body or something.
She also goes on (and on, and on) about Adele who she thinks can’t sing and is only famous because she panders to the public for sympathy with her fatness.
Then, of course she comes for Cardi and Lil Nas X too.
“Like illiterate Cardi then fat Lizzo. They are really choosing the worst of the black womens crop to advertise America with.”
She refers to viral ‘Old Town Road’ as “LIL nas x trash ass buckbreak mountain anthem.” First of all, it’s BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN. Which is an ICONIC film. The disrespect to like, every holy thing here is leaving me speechless.
Banks also reckons Lizzo is “making a fool of herself for the white American public.”

Sure, maybe there’s something to be said about how the world dropped Beyonce the moment she became political and weighed in on BLM, or how Black artists are generally only celebrated by the mainstream until their politics threaten the whites(™). But, that’s completely different from straight up fatshaming Lizzo and attacking her for every premise of her style. Or being homophobic. Or just in general hating on every woman that isn’t you.
Lizzo is a self-love icon because she functions despite people like Azealia Banks. If anything, Azealia Banks has just reinforced my love for Queen Lizzo, because this is exactly the kind of shit Lizzo fights against every single day.
One of the saddest parts about this though is Bank’s obsession with pitting Black women against each other, or even Black artists in general. The political climate of the world right now is seeing more and more hate, so why on earth would you add to it? WTF is this obsessive need to tear down new Black talent because they don’t conform to the exact Black image you think they should? Where is the love and solidarity for other Black women just doing their thing?
This shit-show is honestly the most warranted and purest form of cancelling I have ever seen in my life, and I hope Banks gets DRAGGED for this. She’s coming for something about self-love and acceptance by claiming it’s a curated thing made palateable for white people, and that’s just bullshit.
Lizzo is Black. It’s obviously an integral part to her character, and nothing is going to make her less Black. Azealia Banks needs to sit the fuck down.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure at this point Bank’s purposely says controversial shit so she can occasionally crawl into the spotlight to gain some 15 minutes of unfamiliar fame before she becomes irrelevant yet again.
