Eat Shit: ACMA Has Found Alan Jones To Be In Breach Of Broadcast Codes

He’s been absolutely eviscerated for his misogynistic comments, as he should be.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has finally found shit-eater Alan Jones to have been in breach of broadcast codes with his infamous 2019 comments about Jacinda Arden, and his misinformation about climate change. It’s good to know that there is some line on what kind of BS old white men can spout in the media, even if they aren’t really facing repercussions.

In case you somehow missed the drama, Alan Jones made several violent and misogynistic comments about Jacinda Arden, including “Now I hope Scott Morrison gets tough here with a few backhanders”, “I hope he goes for the throat this morning” and “I just wonder whether Scott Morrison’s going to be fully briefed to shove a sock down her throat”.

Yeah, in a country where one woman dies a week from domestic violence, Alan Jones thought it would be fine to make comments about assaulting one. Several times. In great detail.

I suppose it’s not that surprising, since this is also the man that incited the Cronulla race riots after calling Lebanese men “vermin” and “rapists and pillagers”, among a bunch of other heinous things that are not worth reading.

“The repeated use of violent metaphors by Mr Jones and his apparent encouragement of aggressive silencing of Ms Ardern was highly offensive and did not meet contemporary community expectations,” ACMA chair Nerida O’Loughlin said.

“This was evident in the public display of outrage from the community, actions by advertisers and actions by then chairman of Macquarie Media who publicly stated any recurrence of this type of comment would result in the termination of Mr Jones’ contract.”

The AMCA also called him out for spreading false information about climate change – specifically his comments that biomass is a fossil fuel (it isn’t) and the fact that he incorrectly presented figures relating to how much solar and wind energy is used in Australia and New Zealand.

“The factual error and inconsistent information were used to incorrectly portray that Australia generates more of its energy from renewables than New Zealand,” O’Loughlin said.

The ACMA ruled his comments as “not based on like-for-like data”, which is putting it pretty lightly. 2GB was fined for the broadcasting of such BS, and Alan Jones had to issue an apology on air, as well as a written one for Jacinda Ardern.

Most of us are pretty fucking ecstatic to see Alan Jones publicly called out for being disorderly, even if that only resulted in him having to apologise, with no further action since he’s retiring (or rather, being dismissed). Good Riddance.
