Gallows are gearing up for the release of their fourth record (second with former Alexisonfire guitarist Wade MacNeil on vocal duties) with a steady release of singles. The third – Leather Crown – was released earlier this week, but it’s the second single that has gotten us very, very excited.
‘Bonfire Season’ is probably the closest thing to mid-tempo that Gallows have ever released. The track is moody and menacing, and heavy on atmospheric elements that add an impressive layer of depth to the track (they work wonderfully when combined with the outstanding video as well).
It owes more to post-hard-core than the hard-core-punk that Gallows have all but perfected since their inception, and incorporating this sound more seamlessly into their music will only serve to better highlight the furious intensity present within the rest of their work. Grey Britain showed an ability and desire for this, and a return to a more varied soundscape on the new album would be most welcome for fans that want to see Gallows push themselves to those heights once again.
Desolation Sounds is released on April 13th through Venn Records.
