Frank Ocean Breaks The Silence On Making His Instagram Public In Rare GQ Interview

Frank Ocean, the ultimate man of mystery, has given GQ an exclusive interview covering his Instagram, skin-care routine and making the move from New York and LA. The singer/songwriter/producer/rapper/photographer aka everything under the sun, doesn’t allow himself to do heaps of interviews, which makes this one for GQ super intriguing. Is he planning new music this year? Will we see some cheeky collabs? The suspense is definitely building.

First question up and Ocean gives a simple and direct response when asked why he blessed us all with making his Instagram public in November last year. He says:

‘I feel like there was dissonance between how I was seen by the audience and where I was actually, so that contributed to the decision to make my Instagram public, for sure. But there’s also the idea of dialogue and discourse and conversation—like theater where the audience can interrupt you versus the television.’

The answer was indeed very Ocean-esque, and has still left questions lingering. He is still a man of few words when it comes to captions, but there’s no way we’re complaining about any insight into his life, projects, and production.

Frank also touches on how the production of his music has evolved. He describes his modern outlook of having a song sit with him for a time before recording it, instead of focussing solely on the performance, beat, and flow.  His current music is more ‘deliberate’, in his words. We’re talking quality over quantity, folks. And we’re definitely not complaining.

Having recently moved to New York from LA, Frank goes on to say he’s feeling a lot happier having his own space, rather than going from hotel to hotel. He’s spending a lot more time at home and taking pictures of everything he can (not that we’re seeing a whole lot of this one his Insta). He also goes over the night he drank way too much Mezcal and was far too hungover the next day to cope. We can absolutely relate. Although he did state that he hasn’t drunk since. Drastic measures, Frank?

We’re just keeping everything we can (yes, everything) crossed that all this creativity and new space means new music and more of Frank in 2019. Oh, and a little bit of advice from the man himself; night cream may just be your answer to waking up fresh-faced. Just saying.
