I didn’t know Avil Lavigne’s 2002 banger ‘Complicated’ could get any better. That was until I heard GRAACE cover it on triple j’s Like A Version.
And, basically, I’m shook. Like literal chills.
Life will never be the same.
She’s taken the super emo song and somehow made it even more emo. But less teen angst and more desperate heartbreak. The audacity of this woman, making me feel all the feels in front of my co-workers on a Friday morning.
For the cover, GRAACE went super un-complicated (lol). She cleared out the electric guitars and wheeled in a piano and a trio of cellos in this super moody rendition. And prep yourself to feel all the feels, because this new balladic version really slows things down which, paired with GRAACE’s seriously spine-tingling, sucker punch vocals, really send you flying.
Chec it out for yourself and decide how you feel.

It’s a brave move to cover a classic like ‘Complicated’ , a song that’s a beacon of nostalgia for an entire generation of Singsar wannabe’s. Like, this is big bitch energy. And even though this is a sparkly and tear-jerking piano cover, I reckon you can still easily belt out the lyrics in between sobs. Which makes it a winner in my eyes, and an easy pick for the Hottest 100.
Do right by Avril. Do right by GRAACE. Give it a listen and give in to the feels. Then blast the rest of Avril’s circa 2004 songs and GRAACE’s new stuff. I know what I’ll be jamming to for the rest of the day.
