Add Jeremy Clarkson to the list of middle-aged, middle-class white men who have decided to rip into Greta Thunberg.
This time, the 16-year-old activist and all-round international treasure was called a “spoilt brat” in an opinion piece penned by the rev-head. Clarkson, triggered by Greta’s impassioned (and iconic) ‘How Dare You’ speech to the UN, suggested the teen be grateful for everything his Boomer comrades have done for her generation.
Now, he’s not the first to slag off a child; and he sure won’t be the last to add his grumbling drawl to the choir of disgruntled conservative voices. I mean, at this stage, from the amount of names she’s been called has given her a title just about as long as Daenerys Targaryen.
And, there has to be a logical explanation for their anger. Because there’s just so much.

The “unstable” girl from a “damaged background” (and damaged future, amirite, Piers Morgan?) that her parents have “put on a global stage” to play activist and, thus, be the subject of scrutiny.
The young woman leading the people’s charge against climate change. The young woman inspiring a generation to rally and raise their voices.
Greta Thunberg, the nightmare of middle-aged, middle-class white men (and some women) and climate-change deniers.
Why?
Because she’s the face of the future. She’s the face of what this older generation – her critics – have failed.
And that scares them to death.
