Barbie is finally being brought to life and so fittingly by none other than our very own Margot Robbie. Warner Bros will be taking on the film in partnership with the mega company that created our fave childhood dolls, Mattel. The film is set to release in May 2020.
Amy Schumer reportedly was set to play the iconic kids toy, and then it was said that Anne Hathaway might do the job. However, after months of tossing back and forth between actresses, Margot Robbie became the perfect fit for an IRL Barbie…and we’re not mad about it at all.
Margot Robbie seems to be pretty stoked too. In a statement she explained, “I’m so honoured to take on this role that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children.” She also said that playing Barbie will be promoting “confidence, curiosity and communication.”
Chairman of Warner Bros, Toby Emmerich, also showed his excitement for the first ever authentic Barbie film, “This project is a great start to our partnership with Ynon and Mattel Films, and Margot is the ideal producer and actress to bring Barbie to life on screen in a fresh and relevant way for today’s audiences.”
We are completely stoked to see Margot Robbie playing the role of Barbie. With her striking blue eyes and blonde hair, there’s no way she won’t kill it in the role. Our childhood dreams are all coming true.
