McCain Have Brought Back Your Childhood Faves Potato Smiles So Crank Up Ya Ovens, People

Ah McCain, you really have done it again.

This is not a drill. This is not clickbait. I am being 100% serious. McCain have really done the damn thing and saved the day.

McCain have announced they’ll be bringing back one of their best, most beloved, iconic frozen goods: the Potato Smile.

After the nostalgic snack –  fuel of many a childhood birthday party and canteen lunch order – disappeared from our supermarket shelves five years ago, Australians have been rallying to get them back.

In 2015, a petition was started to return the delicious freezer staple to supermarkets, gaining 25,000 positive responses

According to McCain, over 50% of requests made on their Facebook page were to bring the Smiles back to the freezer aisle. So you could say it’s been in high-demand.

But, finally, FINALLY they have answered our prayers with a modern spin on the classic Potato Smile.ck,

Introducing: EmotiBites Mashed Potato Shapes.

That’s right, these discs of potato joy are based on emojis. You gotta love the 21st century.

McCain Foods’ Marketing Manager Karen Ramsay says the decision to bring back the Smiles, the brand wanted to ensure the product felt contemporary and nostalgic.

“For many Australians, these are something they’ve looked back on fondly as part of their childhood,” she said.

“In the 90s, Smiles were a classic for the pre-digital era, now they bring the same joy, but updated to reflect todays social world.”

Not only does each pack contain the legendary smiles of yore, but also winks, flowers, hearts, and thumbs up. And, can I just say, I don’t care what they look like as long as they do what a Smile is supposed to do. Look good. Smell good. Taste good.

All I want is to be taken back to simpler times, is that too much to ask?

Apparently not, because after 15 minutes in the oven, we can now enjoy EmotiBites ‘as a snack or a side’ option for just $4 a pack from any Coles supermarket.

That’s it, that’s the article. Go and buy yourselves some EmotiBites and relive the good old days.

Catch you in the freezer aisle xo
