Netflix Vs. Stan: Which Binge Beast Is Best?

Tv streaming is becoming more and more a part of our lives. Regular telly just isn’t doing it for us anymore (apart from Bachie, maybe), so we turned to Netflix and now Stan. But because we’re pro’s at saving, (you better believe it) only one can take that precious moolah out of our accounts every month. I’ve curated the best shows on both to help you decide which is the one for you.

Docos

Netflix: Making A Murderer, The Keepers, The Staircase, Pumping Iron, Cartel Land

Stan: Planet Earth I & II, The Circus, Louis Theroux’s Weird Weekends, Wrong Man

The Winner: Netflix

Whilst it’s commendable that Stan have a healthy array of David Attenborough and Louis Theroux in its’ mix, Netflix too has most of the greats. This is in addition to their extensive list of crime documentary’s, including originals such as Making A Murderer, The Keepers and The Staircase. Netflix is a clear winner in the doco’s department.

Sitcoms

Netflix: The Office (UK), How I Met Your Mother, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Stan: Friends, The Office (UK & US), South Park, The OC, Seinfield, Better Call Saul

The Winner: Stan

Similar to the documentary’s on Netflix, Stan has heaps of great sitcom’s, including some you’ve never seen before. Friends is one of, if not the best, and along with both the US and UK versions of The Office (Netflix only has the UK version), Stan is a clear winner if you’re looking for the ultimate binge streaming service.

Aussie Shows

Netflix: Summer Heights High, Angry Boys, Upper Middle Bogan, Rostered On

Stan: Wolf Creek, We Can Be Heroes, One Night Stan, Jonah From Tonga

The Winner: Stan

Stan, as an Australian streaming service, comes out on top. Although a fairly new service, they are adding more and more shows to their lists, including all the Chris Lilley you will ever need. They also recently released the ever favourite of the Australian population, (maybe not the backpackers, sorry) Wolf Creek, which is their original TV series based on the story. One to watch before a road trip, for sure.

Originals

Netflix: Orange Is The New Black, Ozark, 13 Reason’s Why, Riverdale, Narcos, Big Mouth

Stan: Better Call Saul, Romper Stomper, The Other Guy, No Activity

The Winner: Netflix

We’re looking at a pretty obvious winner in terms of original series and movies. Netflix has heaps to offer including Orange Is The New Black and Stranger Things and the list is ever growing. Stan currently has a few but is defs playing catch up.

Movies

Netflix: Forrest Gump, The Breakfast Club, The Hunger Games, The Wolf Of Wall Street

Stan: Lord Of The Rings (Trilogy), Ocean’s Eleven, 12 Years A Slave, Love Actually

The Winner: Tie

Movies are pretty hard to compare. It depends what you like. Although Netflix has 1500 movies on its’ archives compared to Stans’ 1000, you’d have to do some in depth research to find which streaming service is best for your movie needs. They both have some absolute classics and you could spend a couple of years getting through your faves on both.

So you’ve got the facts, now it’s up to you to decide which is best for your screen.
