New Album Alert! Adele’s Birthday Becomes Everyone’s Day

Adele used her birthday to announce a new album on Instagram and, just like that, it’s everyone’s birthday.

Yesterday, the Queen of Heartbreak Bangers turned 31 (HB, babe) and posted a real honest but super positive (and colourfully worded) Instagram post reflecting on her past year.

This is 31…thank fucking god 💀 30 tried me so hard but I’m owning it and trying my hardest to lean in to it all. No matter how long we’re here for life is constant and complicated at times. I’ve changed drastically in the last couple years and I’m still changing and that’s okay. 31 is going to be a big ol’ year and I’m going to spend it all on myself. For the first time in a decade I’m ready to feel the world around me and look up for once. Be kind to yourself people we’re only human, go slow, put your phone down and laugh out loud at every opportunity. Learning to REALLY truly love yourself is it, and I’ve only just realized that that is more than enough. I’ll learn to love you lot eventually 😂 Bunch of fucking savages, 30 will be a drum n bass record to spite you. Chin up eh ❤️

The trio of black-and-white photos, taken at a New Years bash, channel everything ‘new year, new me’ stands for: looking and feeling better than ever.

It’s safe to assume that one of the things that “tried [her] so hard” was her separation from Simon Konecki – her husband of two years and the father of Angelo, their six year old son – which was only announced last month.

News of their split sent fans’ hearts racing (and breaking for their idol) at the possibility of another album packed with power vocals and timeless and deeply therapeutic ballads to cry along to.

Same, folks, same.

It seems Adele is ready for a new album too, promising that “30 will be a drum n bass record” made out of pure spite for the shit she’s been dealt.

She’s gearing us to for a “big ol’ year” of self-love and personal growth, to take time to “feel the world around me and look up for once” – which is a huge vibe for 2019.

I’m sensing some killer tracks that feel like a sucker punch to the heart – the kind of songs that make you want to cry and wallow in your heartbreak, but also remind you what a queen you are.

Imagine that: an album full of the thumping drums of ‘Rolling in the Deep’, with the roaring vocals of ‘Hello’, with the energy of ‘Send My Love (To Your New Lover)‘.

I am ready.
