If you’re a night owl, this might be the best news to come your way. Popular travel website, Kayak, put together a guide of the best times to book a flight. According to that, the cheapest time to book a holiday is 3am on a Thursday. Totally random.
But the guide also shows that booking your holiday way in advanced may not be that financially ideal. It shows travel to Bali is cheapest a month before your departure, whilst Tokyo requires 3 and a half months in advanced. Domestic is even closer to departure, with the Gold Coast being cheapest one week before.
Kayak’s also seeing a major spike in more exotic travel, with searches of India travel reaching an all time high. Aussies are getting more creative and adventurous with their travel, with Nepal and Sri Lanka creeping up the leaderboard.
A couple tips to keep in mind:
- Don’t book TOO early: according to Kayak, the prices of departure were 2% higher 6 months in advanced
- Get your bookings done during late night hours of Thursday night: the cheapest time was 3AM.
- International Trips according to Kayak: Depart on Tuesday and return on Wednesday to save a bunch of cash. These flights were 21% lower than average.
