The NSW Police were already in the bad books for all the things we’ve heard in the news about their conduct as music festivals and elsewhere recently. People are even less keen on them now that the guy in charge has come out in full support of strip-searching kids under the age of 18. He literally said he would be happy for his own kids to be strip searched. WTF.
122 girls have been strip searched in the past three years – all under the age of 18. Which included two twelve year olds. These stats came about after an investigation was launched into the case of a 16 year old girl who was strip-searched at Splendour last year.
And People Are Mad
Unsurprisingly, people are super unhappy with David Elliott and his comments justifying the humiliating process.
How sic is this. Are there any politicians left who have one bone of decency in their body. Police strip searching your 12 year old daughter, think about that for a moment. I would think police should ask a magistrate to authorise a strip search on anyone <18yrs

David Elliott attempting to justify the strip searches of over 100 underaged girls (including two 12yr olds and eight 13yr olds) by saying he would allow police to strip search is own kids, is pretty fucking poor form

As a parent there are no circumstances *at all* in which I would want the police to strip search my teen children or any other teenagers. At. All.

This will be a hoot when his kids turn 21 and someone plays this video clip …a real party stopper . #Auspol #nswpol #stripsearch https://t.co/fzMJc3G8zv

How are you this shiiiiiit— David Molloy (@deadphoenix47) November 6, 2019
Very responsible for Minister Elliott to keep information about 10yo kids doing terrorism in his back pocket until he had to defend cops strip-searching minors

He should! IMHO, strip searching is a violation of young (and older!) people’s human rights and dignity and it undermines their faith in the law and respect for police. (Sorry for the rant, but unlike the Minister, I’d be bl–dy upset if my son was strip searched!)

NSW Police Minister said today he would have no problem with police strip searching his young children…
This is NSW…a dystopian, illiberal nightmare.
