Queen Ariana Grande Just Donated $250k to Planned Parenthood

Take that, Georgia.

Ariana Grande is out here being an icon yet again, this time donating $250,000 from the proceeds of her concert in Georgia to Planned Parenthood.

To give you some context, Georgia recently signed what’s now being called the “heartbeat” bill. It bans abortions as early as six weeks into pregnancy. This means that abortion could be banned for women who don’t even know they’re pregnant yet. Most people don’t know they’re pregnant until eight weeks, i.e one missed period, so this bill basically outlaws all abortions.

It’s called the heart-beat bill because it essentially says that if a fetus is found to have a heartbeat, then it cannot be aborted unless the mum’s life is at risk. The only other exception is “to prevent a serious risk of the substantial and irreversible impairment of a major bodily function.” Yes, there’s no exceptions for rape or incest. Yikes. It’s def an attack on women’s rights and liberties, and essentially forcing pregnancy on people who don’t want it.

The legislation doesn’t just punish parents. It can also give up to ten years jail time to doctors that might perform abortions. While it’s pretty vague on what that means for women who do their own abortions, some worry it could lead to extreme situations like murder charges.

Giving to Planned Parenthood is important now more than ever as they struggle against all these new bullshit laws. Planned Parenthood does so much more than abortion work as well – they do cancer screenings, STD testing, contraception and a whole lot more.

The heart beat bill is obvs really controversial, and the misogynistic female body policing has not been lost on us. Influential actors and even Netflix and Disney threatened to boycott Georgia if these bills went through. Other iconic celebs like Lady Gaga and Rihanna have also jumped in to condemn these extreme and oppressive laws.

Ariana has always been a staunch supporter of feminism and women’s rights, and we’re so proud!
