R. Kelly appeared in a Chicago courtroom in the early hours of this morning where he was quickly taken back into custody and transferred to the country jail after refusing to pay child support. The disgraced R&B singer owes ex-wife, Drea Kelly, US$161,000 worth of child support payments. His failure to cough up the cash could result in additional felony charges thrown in among the slew of sexual assault charges he is already facing.
R. Kelly is back in custody for failing to pay $161,633 in child support to his ex-wife, Cooks County Sheriff’s Office confirmed. The eruption in court this morning comes as an ironic turn of events following his interview with CBS on Tuesday. R. Kelly sat down in an interview with the US news network where he very emotionally plead for a relationship with his kids, yet reports say that even at this point, he still hadn’t paid any child support.
R. Kelly resorted to intimidation as he lunged toward interviewer, Gayle King. It’s a godawful display of the toxic masculinity that has tainted the disgraced singer’s entire career, even more so after a number of sexual assault allegations reemerged after the ‘Surviving R.Kelly’ docuseries earlier this year.
As the evidence continues to be stacked against him, it seems the singer can only resort to child-like behaviour to defend himself. His actions speak louder than his defensive words. This guy’s guilty and it’s time he pays up.
