See ‘Ya Billie Jean, Aussie Radio Stations Cutting Michael Jackson Songs Due To Abuse Claims

Aussie radio network, Nova Entertainment Group have pledged to ax all Michael Jackson tunes from playing on any of their six major air waves across the country. It comes as a slew of abuse claims have emerged from the ‘Leaving Neverland’ documentary that aired on US network HBO just days ago.

But Nova aren’t the only ones. A whole bunch of international networks across the globe have united in their anti-Jackson crusade. Most stations claim that as allegations of paedophilia are stacked up against the late pop star, it’s in their duty to reflect both current contexts and audience interests.

‘Leaving Neverland’ exposes some explosive allegations against the star from two men previously very close to him, Wade Robson and James Safechuck. The two claim MJ molested each of them on the ‘Neverland Ranch’ and they go on to describe a number of specific encounters in very chilling detail.

James Safechuck says in the doco,

“He helped me tremendously with my career. He helped me with my creativity, with all those sorts of things…he also sexually abused me.”

Responses to the star’s allegations ring very similar to the axing of R. Kelly’s tunes off Spotify earlier in the year. It’s an eery reminder to us all that actions have lasting consequences, time nor death will change this.

Another interesting element to the story is Sony’s $250 million seven-year deal to distribute the late star’s recordings. ‘Leaving Neverland’ has already pulled a shadow over the Jackson name, just days after its release, and it’s probable that Sony didn’t foresee such a huge cost in damages.

The Jackson estate has acted swiftly in their defence of the allegations and has since brought a $100 million lawsuit against HBO.
