If 2020 didn’t feel like enough of a joke, now Elon Musk And Grimes have named their child X Æ A-12, which apparently is pronounced ‘Samurai’ – though sources are conflicted on if that’s true.
•X, the unknown variable ⚔️
•Æ, my elven spelling of Ai (love &/or Artificial intelligence)
•A-12 = precursor to SR-17 (our favorite aircraft). No weapons, no defenses, just speed. Great in battle, but non-violent 🤍

(A=Archangel, my favorite song)

Imagine naming your child after a made-up elvish spelling of the Japanese word for love. Like, it’s ALREADY A WORD. Sigh. Surely this is a hate crime.
And yet, somehow the most confusing part of all this is (metal rat).
Of course, the internet is in meltdown, with memes galore. Some people are pointing out that even with this explanation, the name still makes no fucking sense.
“Æ” is in no way similar to “Ai,” this is hilariously dumb.
[Æ], or the “ash” symbol, represents the near-open front unrounded vowel sound, what many people would call a “flat A” sound. Essentially, it’s the <a> sound in the American pronunciation of the word “hat.”— ‘Weird’ Al Jolson (@echolman) May 6, 2020
Most of us are just meme-ing it, because how else are we supposed to react?

My favourite response to this name however, is that of the Californian Law. According to a supervisor at the Department of Public Health Vital Records Office in LA California where the kid was born, it’s actually illegal to include letters and numbers in a name. Oops.
I guess Elon Musk and Grimes will have to shorten it – maybe to just ‘Archangel’? Then it wouldn’t be that different to all the other celebrity names, like Stormi and True. But, knowing Grimes and her need to be ~different~, it’s probably way more likely they’ll shorten it to something like ‘metal rat.’ I mean, it fits in the same boat as ‘Grimes.’
