TEA: Obama’s Whitehouse Team Found Tony Abbott Just As Annoying As We Did

The team would listen to Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech every time Abbott annoyed them.

In perhaps completely unsurprising news, even American politicians thought Tony Abbott was irritating as fuck, which I think says a lot – I mean, have you seen American politics?

Ben Rhodes, the former deputy national security adviser, went on podcast A Rational Fear where he revealed how the Whitehouse team under Obama found Tony Abbott really annoying.

He described Tony Abbott as “frustrating” and  “very sure of himself without really knowing what he was talking about.”

It’s nice to know the entire world thought Tony Abbott was just as much of an idiot as we did.

My favourite part about this hot goss though, is how it turns out  that Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech isn’t just iconic amongst Aussie Millenials and Gen Z.

Rhodes said the team would listen to it every time Tony Abbott pissed them off, and apparently this happened a lot.

“I will tell you that whenever we were really annoyed with Tony Abbott, we would watch the video of that speech by Julia Gillard,” Rhodes said.

“That speech got watched a lot in the Obama White House, let me just put it that way,” he said with a cheeky smile. OOFT. We love to see it.

Rhodes also talked about the G20 in Brisbane which Tony Abbott hosted, where Obama threw shade about how little action Australia was putting towards the climate action effort by telling students at University of Queensland that Australia needed to step up.

“Abbott was upset,” Rhodes said. “You know, this was supposed to be this big stage for him hosting the G20.

“But it’s like, well, look, if you want to host a G20, you’ve got to step up and be an international leader. And we’ve got everybody else kind of rallying around this effort to get to an ambitious climate agreement the next year in Paris, and Abbott was really one of the last holdouts dragging his feet.”

Honestly, all I want out of this is Malia Obama re-making the misogyny speech on Tik Tok, thanks.
