The first Aladdin hit our screens in 1992, when a whole heap of us hadn’t yet blessed the earth with our presence. But here’s round two, and having watched the brand new trailer, we’re pretty confident that old mate Will Smith is gonna smash it. And by the looks of it, will make the movie what it is.
He takes on a classic ‘Will Smith vibe’ in the role, as his famous voice grants Aladdin 3 wishes. And it’s then that we can all agree that the man himself is definitely the best person to play Genie.
Attention draws to Jafar mid-trailer and it’s fair to say that he isn’t nearly as petrifying as 5 year old me was of the cartoon version. Something is lacking, and I can tell you, it’s the creepy tash and goatee combo. Live version Jafar is missing some classic Disney baddie.
One thing’s for sure, the trailer is way better than the first glimpse teaser we got back in October and February. But the whole thing still looks like a high budget Bollywood movie and we’re not entirely sure what to think of it all. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
Aladdin hits screens on May 24th.
