So the MTVs 2015 VMA’s took place last Sunday and a lot more happened than just Miley Cyrus’ side boob. If you, like us, have had trouble finding headlines about anything else, here’s a quick look at the top eight moments that you may or may not have heard about
1) Taylor Swift proving she’s the most popular girl in Hollywood
In case you were ever in any doubt, Taylor Swift has more friends than you. The Moonman winner’s entourage for the VMA’s included half the cast of ‘Bad Blood’ (not to mention most of the 2014 Victoria’s Secret show) with BFF Selena Gomez, Karlie Kloss, Lily Aldridge and Gigi Hadid dropping jaws like dominos on their way down the red carpet.
2) Nicki Minaj Versus Miley Cryus
Nicki accepted her award for the unapologetically raunchy video ‘Anaconda’ in a bronze sequin dress before thanking her pastor and launching upon VMA’s host Miley Cyrus. The hip-hop category winner shamed the evening’s host for her unfavorable words about her in The New York Times. Minaj’s sass level truly deserves more attention here – all that’s lacking from her ultimate street cred moment is asking Rebel Wilson to hold her earrings.
3) Miley forgetting the rest of her outfit…nine times
Poor Miley had a rough night though. Hosting and getting verbally abused on stage must have been mentally exhausting for the pop sensation because she managed to forget to put on most of her outfit-nine times over. You can see a small part of her choir of unfinished and colorful VMA looks above.
4) Justin Bieber Crying
Justin Bieber’s chart topper ‘Where Are You Now’ has actually been getting more press than his torso this season. Thankfully, the Beibs drew attention back to his raw sexuality by uncontrollably – and we mean uncontrollably – crying after his VMA’s performance of ‘What Do You Mean. Speculation attributes the tears to happiness over the adoring crowd but we’re putting our bets on remorse for this circa 2007 pop-punk hair cut.
5) Demi Lovato Sexing it Up
Demi Lovato proved that bangs really can change everything when she took over the outdoor Pepsi stage in a purple leotard and thigh high boots. The former Disney star smashed her VMA’s performance out of the park as she floated gracefully from the stage, carried in a blow up pool. Our girl Iggy also made a brief, confusing appearance, rising from the stage to deliver an inaudible rap before exiting the same way.
6) Kanye Had A Big Night
Poor Kanye proved it aint easy being Yeezy. The one man tabloid danced his little heart away to ‘The Weekend’ early on in the night and tired himself right out. Don’t worry though, he found ample naptime during Taylor Swifts acceptance speech for best female video. He was totally joking though as the two actually buried the hatchet, with T Swift poking fun at the 2009 incident. Kanye seemed revitalized enough by this to accept his Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award with a lengthy speech that ended with the proclamation ‘‘And yes, as you probably could have guessed by this moment, I have decided in 2020 to run for president.”
Who guessed this? How long have they known? Why didn’t they do something?
7) Taylor and Nicki Minaj’s ‘completely spontaneous’ show of making amends
Miley wasn’t the only pop star to offend Nicky in recent weeks with Taylor also copping some sasstastic tweets from the rapper in July. Taylor’s never one to hold a grudge though*. The two made a very public amends, singing a verse of ‘Bad Blood’ together after a performance of Nikki’s tragically under rated dance hall number ‘Trini Dem Girls’.
*This might be why she has more friends than you.
8) Big Sean has actual music news
Big Sean has won the award for Video With A Social Message for his inspirational anthem “One Man Can Change The World.’ The 27 year old brought Kayne West and John Legend on stage to thank them for their guidance and collaboration (Big Sean is signed to Kanye’s label GOOD music).
For the record, the song only made it to #92 on Australian charts for just two days before being knocked out. So don’t feel bad that you don’t know it.
