You know that feeling when you’ve just started dating someone and you want to shower them with gifts? Or when bae reminds you of how much you love them and you want to treat them just because? It’s a pretty special feeling. But if you’re living that millennial broke life (like me) then you’ll know that this can be a rough place to be.
Logically you know that it’s not a good move to spend the last of your pay on a fancy dinner out. But nevertheless, you still want to treat bae just because you love them. And with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, the urge is stronger than ever. Well, never fear because I have some tips on how to surprise them with a lil love on the cheap. Warning though, it’s about to get pretty corny up in here.
1. Mini Scavenger Hunt
This one takes a little pre planning on your part, but if your honey is the type to like this kinda shit, the payoff is totally worth it. All you really need is some post-its, a pen and a prize (or a couple little prizes along the way). Go around the house and place post-its with clues to the next one. If you have a small apartment, hide them in drawers or books so the search is a bit harder. Have a prize ready for them at the end. Maybe it’s their favourite food, or a massage or something. If you’re really hard on cash, the prize can be yourself in little to no clothing. The possibilities are endless!
2. Couples Coupon Book
It’s a classic for a reason. As easy as buying a 50 cent little notebook from the newsagent and writing down tasks/experiences on the pages. Or you can go a bit further and buy some proper paper and scrapbooking stuff and make them super pretty. This is the gift that keeps on giving, and everything is totally on your terms. Everything in that little book of deeds is set by you, so really, you still have control, even if bae thinks otherwise.
3. Pamper Evening
What is usually saved for girl’s nights in can be shared with your lover. Instruct your S/O to take a back foot for the evening and let them just relax while you take care of everything. Cook up their favourite dinner or order from their fave UberEats restaurant. And if your partner is a big tough dude, that doesn’t mean he wouldn’t like a cheeky facial. They don’t know what they’re missing, and if you include a face and neck massage they’ll be putty.
4. Candle Lit Dinner
A DIY candle lit dinner is always a winner, and can almost go hand in hand with the pamper evening. Dudes with lady friends, trust me when I say we love having a man cook for us. Major brownie points right there. And for those of us treating a dude to dinner, he’ll just love being fed so no worries there.
5. You, Boo, with no clothes too
Happy Valentine’s Day. ‘Nuff said.
