Get your tall glasses at the ready, folks. It’s time to find your inner thirst (okay, calm down) and set your tastebuds alight.
Last month, BACARDÍ held the grand final of their Legacy bartending competition in Sydney, where James Irvine (of Baxter Inn, Frankie’s Shady Pines and Hubert – not a bad ‘lil resume there) took out the crown with his Bocado cocktail special.
With a stirred, not shaken, cheeky mix of – wait for it – BACARDÍ Gran Reserva 8 Años Rum, DeKuyper Creme de Bananes, Noilly Prat Original Dry Vermouth, Palo Cortado Dry Sherry and Rosemary Oil.
Or for you lay-mans out there, a very Spanish influenced rum-delight, with a fruity essence, that is a crisp flavour bomb. AKA Something you need to get your hands, and mouth, on ASAP.
“It’s thrilling (the win), and I’m on a creative high. I’ve been working on this for years – and it motivates me because being a bartender makes someone’s night better,” Irvine said.
And the Sydney bartender’s win is also a win for all you aspiring bartenders out there.
“It’s funny being here because I started in a bar cleaning ashtrays a few years ago, I was at Bungalow 8 cleaning! I didn’t grow up in the bar scene so hopefully it can inspire others.”
So where can you actually get it? Well alas, the cocktail will be available in a tonne of bars around the country until the end of March:
