Who’s This? // TASHA

In this ep of Who’s This? we speak to Melbourne producer and DJ TASHA (aka Natasha Emmanuel), who played YourShot last year and absolutely killed it.

What sparked your interest in DJing?

I remember watching Alison Wonderland Dj at Falls last year, she played with so much passion. Seeing her DJ inspired me to do that, the way she connected with people through her music was out of this world. All I can remember was thinking I want to do that one day.

How long have you been DJing/mixing for?

I haven’t been mixing for long, and being in Your Shot last year was my first big gig. Essentially 90 contestants out of many were chosen with no experience, and trained up as a DJ for 12 weeks. We started training in June, so I’ve only been mixing for a couple of months!

Is DJing your passion project or your future full time job?

DJing at the moment is my passion project. Before I entered Your Shot I was preforming as a Singer/Songwriter and teaching music.

Who are your biggest electronic music influencers?

My biggest music influences right now would be Alison Wonderland, Flume and Party Favour. I went and saw Flume last year and was absolutely amazed! One of the best concerts I have ever been to. I love how all these artists are just who they are, super unique and original like no one else!

If you could perform anywhere in the world where would it be and why?

I would love to preform at Coachella one day, who wouldn’t?! Coachella is my dream, my favourite artists have preformed there, plus I absolutely love festival dress ups! GLITTER!

Do you have any side projects that support your DJing?

I am a singer/songwriter. I want to write, record and produce my own music with my own vocals! I have been singing ever since I was 16, playing piano and guitar since I was 7. It has helped me through a lot, I use to go to sing and write songs as a way to escape from reality.

Who is your favourite DJ and why?

Alison Wonderland all the way! I love how she talks about her struggles with anxiety and depression. I feel like people can really connect with that especially with real lyrics that make people feel like their not alone with their struggles and the way she preforms on stage with so much passion shows that she really loves what she does.

What’s your favourite club in your city for banging tunes?

ATM its at a bar called Veludo! Friday nights are where it’s at! Always packed with such good vibes.

What’s next on the agenda for you?

So I’ve been gigging at local clubs around Melbourne and have been collaborating with many artists, creatives on some original music! I can’t wait to show the world what i’ve been working on! I want to be completely real with my music and lyrics and I hope that people can really connect with it.
