Why We Should Really Get Around Tash Sultana

Our girl Tash Sultana has just dropped a huge announcement, and I personally just can’t get enough. She’s touring down here in Oz, so if you had plans for February/March next year, cancel them.

The former busker has been nonstop taking on the world for the past two and a half years and BOY did we miss her. What’s even better? She’s bringing along pals Ocean Alley for the whole. Entire. Thing. This will be her first headline tour in well over a year on home ground and she’ll be killin’ it for a full 2-hour set. The tour kicks off in Adelaide in late February next year, followed by March shows in Hobart, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Darwin and finishing up in Fremantle.

But she’s copped a bit of a strange bad rap of late, and I’m not really sure why. From her upbringing and story being super inspiring, let me tell you why we should all embrace this legend.

Early Years Magic

Gifted her first guitar at age three, she picked up the talent from a young age. Boy she’s come far from here. She can play 20 instruments; guitar, bass, trumpet, flute, percussion and saxophone to name a few (I mean… I can play chopsticks on piano but that’s about it).

At the age of 17

Sultana developed drug-induced psychosis and underwent several months of therapy to recover. Unable to find a stable job, she turned to busking on the streets of Melbourne to get by.

An Internet Sensation

At the age of 21 she shared a video on social media that went viral and generated one million views within five days. Within the same year, she won the J Award for Unearthed Artist of the Year and had two tracks voted into the Triple J Hottest 100, 2016: “Jungle” (No.3) and “Notion” (No.32). #Girlpower

Taking On The World

At 22 years of age, she announced a world tour of Notion. Including hundreds of shows in Australia, New Zealand, and the UK. Not only that, she released another single, ‘Murder to the Mind’ and it reached the top 20 on the Australian Artist Singles chat.

Home Soil

In the same year, Sultana toured Adelaide, Sydney, Fremantle, Margaret River, Melbourne and Noosa.

Fast Forward To Now

Tash just announced her Flow State National Tour, bringing along Ocean Alley pals for the ride. BOY we’re excited.

But she’s a definite mood. The music industry is known for pushing females to be super glam (think Kylie Minogue circa 2003 and Ariana Grande). But her vibe of laid-back tomboy and smashing goals is definitely something we vibe and love. (Thought you accomplished something today? Ha think again.)

Tash’s last Australian tour saw record-breaking numbers by selling out in days, so be sure to get in quick.

For dates and tickets, check it all out here. Keep your eyes peeled legends. But for now, enjoy her angelic voice through pity earphones
