F*CK YES.
We had the taste of sweet elixir on our mouths over the past few days, as trailers upon trailers were released at Comic-Con in the US.
But today we’ve completed the HD-DC trailer combo; with the official releases of both Suicide Squad plus Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice – all in full HD gooeyness.
Don’t underestimate how freaking massive these two films are. With Batman v Superman set for a front end 2016 release, and SS penned in for a back end 2016 showing – it’s arguably the biggest year in the DC cinematic universe.
And judging by the trailers, they are going for the jugular. Fail, and DC could well fall back into the abyss they’ve only recently crawled out of. But succeed, and they could be well on track to getting to Marvel heights (and my goodness, the ever so slight potential of an Justice League/Avengers crossover – okay I’ll stop fanboying).
Back to these trailers – and of course much of the hype is focused on Jard Leto’s Joker in Suicide Squad, who get’s a couple of seconds of precious air time toward the end. It’s the first live action shots we see of the new Joker ‘look’ and feel – which has polarised fans since initial images were released.
I’m backing him though – such a capable method actor and while I think his Joker will be a much more ‘psycho’ joker, compared to the reserved, witty, yet mentally unstable Heath Ledge epic portrayal. We also get a little Batman cameo as expected too! Yum.
Ps. Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn has to be one of the best castings in comic-screen adaptions. Even from the limited screen time we see of her in the trailer, she looks like the absolutely perfect fit. An Aussie playing Harley Quinn? Double yum.
This is really the one we all want to see though. Ben Affleck has been much like Leto – very split opinions of him as a considerably older Batman than (at-athletic-peak) Christian Bale’s most recent version. But it looks so mean.
Superman praised and worshipped as a god, while Batman almost representing a rogue rebellion figure who aint happy with the amount of power the former seems to have.
On top of the sheer idea of seeing the screen-lit fight/s between the two characters, we’re also set to get appearances from a creepy-looking Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Wonder Woman, Alfred and I’d be very surprised if we didn’t get some Joker too – may depend on how successful Suicide Squad goes.
All in all, massive step in the right direction for the DC cinematic universe. KEEEEEEN.
