What is it? Ringer for best burger joint in Sydney.
Where? North Sydney.
When’s it open? Lunch.
Who should you go with? Solo, with the lads, with the girls (on your cheat day) – anyone.
Why? Taking you to a New York grill in the heart of Sydney’s second CBD.
If you ever wanted to feel well and truly satisfied, amazed, yet simultaneously defeated by food – add 5 Points to your list of must go’s. Sitting in the hub of North Sydney on Berry Street, 5 Points, was born from an old cafe and has since become a crazy hit.
So much so, if you know your burgers well, you probably would think 5 Points being a Hidden Gem was way out of line. Decked out in with a proper NYC décor inside, the lunch stop has been in huge demand.
You’re almost guaranteed to always be faced with a line that extends well outside the shop (marketing ploy or proper packed? Be the judge if and when you make a visit). On average, it’s probably about a 10-minute wait weekdays, but on Fridays prepare for a Call of Duty release like salvage in line.
Go with your burger of choice and some chips, just be prepared.
But let’s get down to the crux of this bad boy. The burger. Oh, the burger. You get the option of four staple burgers. First (and my fave) the Bronx – sitting at $12.5 and the most expensive of the lot (for good reason), this bad boy gives you the juiciest beef pattie known Sydney-side man. Chuck some bacon, onion jam and American mustard and you have yourself a true MVP.
Then you have the Manhattan, basically a Bronx without bacon – Queens, which is the chicken special also with bacon but with tomato/chilli sauce and gherkin mayo (makes the burger) – and finally a veg option in the Staten Island, led out by roast protobello mushroom, peppers and tzatziki. These killer mouthfuls are mashed between a delightfully soft brioche bun – which is definitely all the rage at the moment.
Don’t play the bun down though, because there aint nothin’ worse than copping too much dough when taking a chunky bite.
Of course you can pair your little fella up with a side of chips (beer battered and super soft inside) – and even a milkshake if you’re feeling brave. Both decent additions, but jumping on all three parts of the puzzle can set you back up to $30-$40.
Go with your burger of choice and some chips, just be prepared. Because if you aren’t, you’ll be facing an afternoon at work starring at yourself in the reflection of your computer.
