So Kendrick Lamar’s latest record, To Pimp a Butterfly, has been a worldwide hit of epic proportions. King Kunta has been storming the charts, and the TDE man’s ‘jazz rap’ has been gaining all types of critical acclaim.
And it’s not just because of the killer rhymes, or melodic beats. The album, much like it’s predecessor, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, deals with an array of social issue – in particular black culture in America.
We’ve all been aware of recent issues in the US, and Lamar focuses his metaphorical lense directly on them in his video for Alright. Colin Tilley directs the shit out of this nearly-7-minute masterpiece. And while it is visual dazzling, the social relevance really takes it to new heights.
Anyways, me writing about this is not going to do this banger justice, so watch, enjoy, you’re gonna be alright.
