The Message Behind The Insta Egg Has Us Asking Why More Celebs Aren’t Doing The Same Thing

The feud between Kylie Jenner and the egg was extremely random. It was an eggcellent display of society’s pettiness but we all got behind it anyway, all 12.5 million of us. The guys behind its unexpected stardom though have finally come out and as it turns out, this humble little egg represents more than just pettiness and Insta feuds.

A 29 year old advertising creative, Chris Goddfrey and his two friends were the masterminds behind the egg and its universal message that’s going down in history for the best, most appropriate use of 15 seconds of fame we’ve ever seen.

In a series of days leading up to the US Super Bowl, the egg started to crack. What began as a slight crack at the top gradually became worse. We didn’t know what to think. Would we see it crack? Would there be omelettes?

The day of the US Super Bowl it was announced on streaming network Hulu that the egg was having a hard time. In the video you see its eyes growing tired as its shell cracks more and more.

“Hi, I’m the world record egg, you may have heard of me,” it says.

“Recently I’ve started to crack.”

“Social media is getting to me.”

“If you’re struggling too, talk to someone.”

Speaking to the NY Times, the guys have said they never in a million years expected the egg to gain so much support. Suddenly awarded with 15 minutes of fame they realised they had a platform to do some good.

“Its what you do with that attention that counts,” Chris said.

Mental health is an extremely important issue and conversations definitely need to open up. It’s pretty darn crazy that more celebs aren’t using their influence to raise awareness for issues such as this. Whilst the egg surpassed Kylie Jenner’s most liked insta post, she’s still racked up a following of over 125 million.

2019 has already seen the birth of the egg followed by a huge advert for mental health yet all we’ve seen from Kylie are a bunch of overpaid advertisements and self promoting reminders of her wealth, success and celeb status.

Maybe the egg will inspire others to follow suit…

It’s a valiant effort to do some good nonetheless, bravo boys.
