Skywhale Is Back, Baby, In All Her Titty-lating Ten-Nipple Glory

I love this country.

Skywhale has been hibernating from Canberra’s skies for six years, nine months and 27 days. But on Monday morning she came back, and she’s as bulbous, balloony, and boob-y as ever.

She rose at dawn, lifting her 30-metre form above crowds that gathered to see her return. Her “calm, benign expression” and 10 pendulous teats floated once more in the Canberra skies for the Canberra Balloon Spectacular.

And crowds were delighted to have her back.

What an angel. And an angle.

The hot-air baloon was created and debuted in May 2013 to mark Canberra’s centenary. Since then, it has flown around Ireland, Japan, Brazil, and Victoria’s Yarra Valley. She was created by internationally renowned Canberran artist, Patricia Piccinini.

Also rising in the early morning was a 40-metre-tall tyrannosaurus rex and a number of other international ballons. But this was not the Skywhalepapa partner that Piccinini has teased and that crowds were anticipating.

That’s right, there’s another Skywhale coming – sans-mammaries.

Skypapa is described as “taller and more vertical” than his female companion. Weighing 400kg, he will be 37-metres wide, 30-metres tall and “incredibly muscular”. And, although he isn’t Skywhale’s husband (officially), he is “surrounded by a group of Skywhale children”.

But his absence was definitely felt by crowds who crawled out of bed in the ridiculously early hours of the morning. Nonetheless, they were still absolutely overjoyed to have the majesty of Skywhale back in the Canberra skies – even if bad weather kept her tethered to the ground.

For now, Skywhale will be hanging out on the lawns outside Old Parliament House, watching over (lol literally) democracy with her “calm” eyes.

Long may she float!
