Judge Judy has announced that she will be drawing her iconic daytime television show to a close after 25 seasons of gavel-banging.
This undoubtedly signals the end of an era for an entire generation of kids taking sick-days off school. Ah, the memories. We will cherish them forever.
Host (and daytime TV queen) Judy Sheindlin made the announcement during an interview on The Ellen DeGeneres Show – which will air tomorrow (if my America-Australia conversion is correct).
According to ET Online she shared that the final season – the “best year yet” – will air in 2021. But never fear, for Judge Judy won’t be exiting our lives completely, Sheindlin says she will begin working on a new series: Judy Justice.
Which sounds like some bad-ass superhero thing. And I am 110% down for it.
She said it’s been a successful “25 year long marriage” with the show and CBS, and coming into their silver anniversary year the company wants to “optimally utilize the repeats of [the] program.”
“Because now they have 25 years of reruns. So, what they decided to do was to sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns. But I’m not tired, so Judy Justice will be coming out a year later.”
Judge Judy will still be around for “a full year, all new shows. With a ponytail!” she said. Judy is serving looks now.
She told DeGenerous that reuns will continue on CBS and all the stations that currently carry it for a few more years (so that means we’re safe, for now). But “Judy Justice will be going elsewhere. Isn’t that fun?”
Yes, Judy, that does sound fun. Now a new show to add to the watch list when I’m lounging on the couch having a day off ‘sick’. *cough* *cough*.
