How To Date In Isolation, And Post Lockdown When We All Have No Clue What To Do

Why not date yourself?

Dating seems to come easier for some compared to others, and if it wasn’t difficult for you before, COVID-19 has surely made dating in iso almost impossible. While lockdown restrictions are set to ease even further on Friday, meeting new people for the purposes of dating or a bit of casual fun is still slightly risky, so it might be worth waiting a little longer to get that nut.

HOWEVER, making sure you take care of yourself physically, and emotionally, in this time is pretty damn key. So here’s how you can date without the bacterial concerns.

Get To Know Yourself, Physically And Emotionally

As many friends and Facebook posts have told me, a vibrator or any other kind of sex toy that you prefer is a necessary investment during iso – looking at you too, gents. I know it can be a bit intimidating if you’re just starting with them, but there are always options to ease in. There’s honestly a tonne of help out there for finding a toy that works for you, so get researching (or just base it on your star sign like all other life decisions). There’s so many to choose from, I don’t even know where to start, but I’ve been promised that it’ll become by best friend at home.

We also have a comp running with our lovely friends at Lovehoney, where we’re giving away a Self Love or Date Night prize pack, so follow the link here to enter! But hurry, it closes on Wednesday May 20that 11:59pm (AEST), so get cracking!

And look, if getting down and dirty with yourself isn’t your thing – spend some time dating yourself. Treat yourself to a quiet night in with your favourite dinner and a movie. Read a book you’ve been meaning to read for ages. Listen to some music. Maybe even download a guided meditation app (my favourite is Smiling Mind). Dye your hair. Learn a language or skill. Take the time to get to know yourself again, without the distraction of the outside world. Give yourself some love and attention.

All Hail The Dating Apps

Dating apps would naturally be where many singles are turning to at the moment, either out of boredom, or genuinely wanting to meet someone. Apps like these offer a way to talk to new people, and have different kinds of conversations and connections, all from the comfort of your own home.

People may see dating apps as a way to cure their loneliness during this time of isolation, some harmless flirting before deleting the app when we’re allowed outside again. Others may be looking for a legitimate connection in the hopes of developing a long-lasting relationship. But one thing is for sure, more and more people are downloading, or re-downloading, dating apps at the moment, most likely in an effort to maintain social contact and fight off boredom.

But of course, loneliness and boredom aren’t the only things we’d be feeling right now while we’re itching to get back outside. So how do we manage the other feelings – the hormones and the horniness? If you’re already in a relationship, congrats, you have permission to get freaky with bae. But for those of us who don’t have a significant other, you still have options.
