How To Throw A Killer Halloween Party (No Pun Intended)

It’s coming up to Halloween and everyone’s looking to you (and your free house) to throw the best party. If you don’t know where to start, here’s a few super easy tips to make your Halloween party one that your mates will remember…maybe.

Drink, Drank, Drunk

If there’s one thing that’ll make your party so much better, it’s plenty of good drinks. BYO is fine, but getting your friends to chip in so you can buy it yourself is better. That way, you can set up the drinks. Consider decorating an ice bucket in Halloween theme or covering your bottles in fake spider webs. It’s just a little step that can make a huge difference to the atmosphere of your party. Make sure you’ve got enough drinks for everyone, and a big enough variety to move from wine and beer in the early hours, through to spirits. And don’t forget good mixers. If you’re wanting to stay on theme, grab yourself some blood red mixers. Alternatively, drop a couple drops of red food dye in bottles of lemonade.

Decoration

This is the most important part. If you’re wanting a successful Halloween party, it’s all about the atmosphere. You don’t have to spend much either. You can find super cheap and fun decorations at dollar stores and party shops. Fake spider webs are super easy to hang up around the house and easily add a bit of spook. Fake spiders, blood splatter table cloths and Halloween themed plastic tableware and cups are a quick way to get your decorations to the next level. Scatter a few balloons and pumpkins (real or fake) around the room too. Make sure the lights are low too. You don’t want any bright lights at a Halloween party. If you’re game, put aside a bit of money to hire a smoke machine. Ultra vibey.

Dress Up

For me, personally, I take dress ups very seriously, which ultimately leads me to make everyone else take it seriously too. It’s worth explaining to your mates that dressing up changes the whole mood of the party. If you know they’re a forgetful bunch of friends, keep on reminding them or even go shopping for costumes with them. There’s nothing better than a Halloween party full of people who have put a lot of effort into their costumes. Stay away from bad quality fake blood, it’ll turn your house into a big red sloppy mess. If you’re wanting to use fake blood, make sure you’re buying quality stuff that won’t budge throughout the night.

Good Food

Drunk people get hungry, everyone knows that. Make sure you’ve got a good selection of food and snacks to have around the house for people to pick at. A large cheese board is a foolproof option that’ll keep everyone satisfied for a while. You can’t go wrong with bowls of chips either. If you’re looking for a bit more, set aside some cash to order some pizza later in the night and if you’re wanting to really put effort in, consider making your own Halloween themed snacks. There’s plenty super cool recipes online for eyeball themed food, worm themed food, anything that sounds gross, really. Things on skewers are a plus: easy eating, and things looking impaled on Halloween. Gnarly.

A Killer Playlist

It’s not a party without a good playlist. Be sure to set up your playlist a couple days before the party so your mates can add songs if they want. Throwbacks are super popular, but make sure you tune in to what your friends like. After all, you want them to enjoy it too. Stay away from the classic Halloween jams, it’s just not really the vibe.

Have A Plan

If you’re planning to go out after with your mates, make sure you all decide beforehand where you’re going. There’s nothing worse than standing around for hours indecisive about where you’re going. There’s plenty great events on to continue your Halloween celebrations. Make sure everyone is organised, have cash on hand in case of an entry fee, and have booked a taxi or an Uber to get there. Make it seamless.

It can be quick, easy and pretty cheap to take your Halloween party up a notch. If you don’t know where to start, write down your ideas and get a move on as soon as you figure them out. Time management is so much better than rushing everything last minute. Remember, atmosphere and good costumes will change the whole mood.
