Well, here’s your daily dose of people doing some pretty shitty stuff.
In late November, Dutch photographer Dane Andreas Hvid and a friend snuck into the Great Pyramid of Giza and scaled up the side of the ancient monument. Not only is this highly illegal, but the couple smoked cigarettes as they looked down on the lights of Cairo.
But there’s a real kicker to the whole thing. They then stripped off, and seemingly had sex atop the 4,500 year old monument. We know this because they filmed the climb, photographed themselves nude, and posted it all online.
The video, which was removed and since reuploaded, shows the pair reaching the top of the 455ft pyramid. Hvid captions the video explaining why it starts during the climb.
“In late November 2018, a friend and I climbed the Great Pyramid of Giza (a.k.a. Pyramid of Khufu, Pyramid of Cheops).
Fearing to be spotted by the many guards, I did not film the several hours of sneaking around at the Giza Plateau, which lead up to the climb.”
As Egypt considers the pyramids to be some of its most important monuments, the incident is set to be investigated at the highest level. Ahram Online reported that the minister of antiquities, Khaled el Anany, had sent the case to be investigated by the prosecutor general.
While some Egyptian officials have said the whole thing is faked, it has caused outrage around the world. Just climbing the pyramids is punishable by law in Egypt, and the whole area is closed after 5pm. The further steps the pair took have been seen as a disregard for the cultural values of the conservative society.
Look, this is a pretty dick move no matter how you spin it (no pun intended). I think what we should all take from this is just don’t disrespect a national monument. Especially not by putting your naked butt on everything.
