Charlie Brooker’s brain child, Black Mirror, is one heck of a soul-destroying take on the world as we know it. Weirdly enough, we’re all very bloody into it and his dark, nihilistic takes on technology are as addictive as they are horrifying. The fifth season of Black Mirror is set to be released on June 5, and the trailer release has stirred a whole melting pot of emotions and reactions ahead of the season’s launch. If you’re a few hours late to the party, catch it here.
Whilst Miley Cyrus has been plastered over socials this morning for her role in the series, less is known about the nature of the plot and for what reason Brooker decided to cast her. According to sources (ie self-proclaimed Black Mirror experts on Twitter), Brooker has cast Cyrus to assist his exploration into the lesser known, dark side of ‘stan culture’ and the deeply invested, cult-like followings of celebrities.
Whilst Miley has certainly found herself a more illusive place in pop culture (a stark comparison to her Wrecking Ball days), she’s an extremely relevant point of connection for audiences to understand the scary side of fame and fortune – that and her undeniable flair on the big-screen.
It’s not yet clear exactly how many episodes the three-part series will include, but Netflix have indeed confirmed we should expect to see some eerie-insights into technology, love, privacy, connection, sex, family, work and the afterlife. Gone are the days of a heart-warming Netflix binge, give us the darkest shit you’ve got, Brooker.
